Hello, my name is Andy Sargent and I will be your student's 4th grade teacher this year! This is my first year at Swallow School so I would love to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about my background and how I ended up here. I completed my undergraduate degree at Quinnipiac University and got my first teaching experience working in a 2nd grade classroom at an elementary school in New Haven, Connecticut. Most recently, I have spent the last 6 years working as a teacher for Boston Public Schools in Massachusetts. I loved my time there, but after the birth of our daughter, my wife and I decided to relocate to Wisconsin so that we could be closer to family. I am excited to be joining the wonderful staff at Swallow School and look forward to getting to know you, your students and the Hartland community.
Outside of school I love to cook and started my own business as a private chef back in Boston - something I hope to start up in the Milwaukee area soon! I also love hiking, camping, snowboarding and spending time outdoors with my family.
I believe that open communication between parents and their children's teachers is of the utmost importance so please never hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have!

Hello and welcome to 4th Grade! I am thrilled to be working with you, your child, and a passionate team of 4th grade teachers to create the best learning experience for your child. We will have a fun-filled year with a rich and engaging curriculum.
Our reading curriculum will be based on the workshop model while still utilizing small groups. This approach helps promote good independent choices and ensures learning by all children. We will continue to use a balanced literacy approach which includes Writer’s Workshop, grammar, and spelling activities. Students are also challenged during Everyday Math activities and will have the opportunity to explore science and social studies through hands-on, authentic experiences.
Your child will find a warmhearted and inviting environment in our classroom where I will model and help develop an atmosphere where students treat each other with kindness, empathy, understanding, patience, and respect. This is very important, as we do many learning activities that require teamwork. I am a high-energy person, and love to find ways to blend humor with my enthusiasm for teaching each day.
I have taught 1st, 2nd, and 4th grade here at Swallow School. Previously, I graduated with a Business Degree with an emphasis in Marketing and a minor in Economics from UW-Stevens Point while playing varsity soccer for the Lady Pointers. After spending one year in the business world, I returned to UWSP to pursue a degree in Education and served as the student-assistant coach for the UWSP Women’s Soccer Team. I received my Masters Degree in Education from Cardinal Stritch University, and continue taking Professional Development classes to be the best teacher I can for my students.
I am lucky to be a teacher here at Swallow School and am fortunate to work with our strong, dedicated, kind, and caring staff. I enjoy working alongside the families in our district, and with all the students in the Swallow School community. I am looking forward to making wonderful memories together this year!
Please feel free to contact me at any time.
