Swallow 6th, 7th, & 8th graders have helped create a very special Thanksgiving for the greater Milwaukee community. Students did chores for family and neighbors, then donated their earnings to raise $731.95 all together. This money was then donated to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission which resulted in the provision of 359 Thanksgiving dinners for those in need.
Sophia Strobusch participated in the event because she, “Wanted to help people who needed the food more than I do.” Andrew Orzechowski commented, “If you show kindness to other people, it will always come back” which he feels is important all times of the year, but especially at the holidays. Naomi Boundy, pictured below, said, “I am privileged to have both what I need and want, so I wanted to help others have what they need too.”
Middle School Literature Teacher Gretchen Nelson, who helped organize the event, commented, “We are so proud of the generosity and compassion that our students have shown during this season of gratitude.”
Swallow Middle School students have been participating in the Turkey Trot since 2004. Due to the pandemic, instead of bringing in canned goods and making monetary donations, only donations were collected this year.
