Committee members discussed the evolution of learning by comparing the elements of current school layouts and features with today’s work environments. Staff-led tours of the large spaces within the building including the Discovery Lab, Library, Hawk’s Nest, music rooms, gymnasiums, and Multipurpose Room were provided and the committee heard from teachers and administration about the curriculum and programmatic offerings of the district. The committee meeting concluded with determination of the questions for the district’s upcoming Community Conversations series which runs on nine dates in January 2018.

According to Superintendent Dr. Melissa Thompson, “This third committee meeting completed a comprehensive tour of the building and allowed everyone the chance to hear first-hand from many school staff about how the building supports our programming and the community’s use of the building and grounds. I look forward to the upcoming Community Conversations series as a chance to share the committee’s learning to date and continue to build upon our shared vision for the future of our district’s programming, services, and spaces to support each.”

“For more than a decade the school board and administration have carefully planned for known future projects both through curation of a Capital Improvement Project list and allocating funds to pay for these future projects,” notes School Board President John Stahl. “Now, as many of these items are coming due, we look to the community and Facilities Advisory Committee to help identify and affirm these projects. The board and administration hope all residents will participate in the upcoming Community Conversations series as a next step in this process.”

The district has announced dates, times, and locations for the Community Conversations series on its website at www.swallowschool.org. Residents and Swallow families can RSVP to [email protected] or by calling 262-367-2000 x124.

Representatives from Plunkett Raysich Architects (PRA) and CG Schmidt Construction were on hand to answer questions and to assist the district with the meeting. The next Facility Advisory Committee Meeting will be held Tuesday, February 13, at 6:30pm at Swallow School.
