This is the image for the news article titled Swallow Education Foundation Surpasses Donation GoalThe Swallow Education Foundation (SEF) presented $55,000 to the district last week as a result of extraordinary community support which led to surpassing this year’s donation goal of $25,000. This donation will provide additional Phase III and IV funding to grow enrichment programming focused on Science, Math, Technology, Engineering, Fine Arts, and sports offerings for younger students along with completing the addition of flexible furnishings for each grade level and specialist area.

Superintendent Melissa Thompson praised the SEF and community for the exceptional effort and dedication to the district which made this kind of donation possible and further commented, “This additional funding has extra significance because it shows not just that we have a supportive group of parents, but that local businesses and organizations also believe in our goals and plans and are willing to invest in them. I cannot thank the SEF Board and volunteers enough for their tireless efforts to organize fun events such as the annual auction, Run Your Socks Off, Trivia Nights, and Holiday Shoppe which provide additional support to our district.”

Improvements as a part of this Two Year Investment Plan to date include: fixing drainage problems on the playground area, installing new playground equipment/swings, the addition of two tetherballs and a Gaga pit via donations from an Eagle Scout and the Class of 2016, flexible furnishings for 4th/5th grade classrooms, and increased funding and offerings for new enrichment programs including the Junior Basketball program, Makerspace Club, and Chess Club. Next steps will include the creation of an indoor fitness center to support adaptive physical education needs and more personalized student fitness programming and other fitness equipment.

The district’s Two Year Investment Plan was created using feedback from the district’s Community Conversations series and annual parent, student, and staff surveys. The addition of flexible furnishings to grade levels and specialist areas ensure a more hands-on approach to student learning can occur and smooth transitions between the ten grade levels served can be accomplished in commonly used spaces such as art, music, and Spanish classrooms.
