On Wednesday, November 15th, the Swallow School District met for a second time with its newly formed Facility Advisory Committee. The Facility Advisory Committee, comprised of 17 volunteer district residents, is charged with identifying and confirming school district needs as part of the current Long Range Master Planning process.

The Facility Advisory Committee has heard how the building supports student learning needs from teachers, toured portions of the school, reviewed the district's list of known capital improvement projects, and heard from Jeremy Struss, Director of Business Services, who explained how school funding works in the state of Wisconsin and the current financial status of the district.

“For more than a decade the school board and administration have carefully planned for known future projects both by curating a Capital Improvement Project list and allocating funds to pay for these projects,” notes School Board President John Stahl. “Now, as many of these items are coming due, we look to the Facilities Advisory Committee to help affirm and identify these projects and recommend a timeline and funding mechanisms to address each.”

In addition to understanding the current needs of the district, committee members are learning more about the future of education and labor market needs. These, taken together with the known maintenance needs of the district, will shape the committee’s recommendations for a Long Range Master Plan.

Superintendent Dr. Melissa Thompson said, “Our community has been very supportive of our planning efforts and ways we have begun to update our building and grounds to ensure it supports all of our offerings to our ten grade levels of students. Working with the Facilities Advisory Committee will ensure the Long Range Plan of the district reflects not only student needs but what the community values.”

Leading the District through these efforts are Plunkett Raysich Architects (PRA) and CG Schmidt Construction.
