On Thursday, November 2, 2017, the Swallow School District held its first meeting with the newly formed Facility Advisory Committee. The Facility Advisory Committee, comprised of 17 volunteer district residents, is charged with identifying and confirming school district needs as part of the current Long Range Master Planning process.

“Swallow School has been the educational home to thousands of children over more than 170 years and has been a meeting place for community members for generations,” notes School Board President John Stahl. “Now, as we look to the future, we must ensure that the school building and grounds are designed to best serve current and future Swallow students.”

As the youngest Swallow students will graduate into the job market of 2035 and the district has just completed its Strategic Plan, now is an important time to complete a Long Range Master Planning process. The Long Range Master Planning process includes a multi-faceted approach to assess the condition of the district’s building and grounds and review of educational programming to ensure facilities are well-maintained and support future curriculum and programming needs.

Superintendent Dr. Melissa Thompson said, “Preparing our students for their future is among our highest priorities. In order for them to be successful we need to ensure that the learning environment and facility is capable of supporting student needs.”

Leading the District through these efforts are Plunkett Raysich Architects (PRA) and CG Schmidt Construction.
